I don't blog very often, and I doubt anyone has read what I have blogged, possibly if I started blogging and writing cool stuff that would all change.
I've been accepted to WSU, and I'm going there for computer science. w00t. Prom was awesome this year, I've gotten to know a very nice girl named Dallas. Fun stuff. And I've ordered a MacBook for college. Since I'm a student it came with a free iPod nano. I got the iPod today, and I have to say it is much better than the old 10 GB iPod I'm used to. I don't know why, it just has that mysterious charm all Apple products have.
As far as my Linux set-up, which I discussed about 7 months ago, sound works, but I have to do a alsaconfig everytime I start up. And I have it in run level 3, and I'm using WindowMaker for my window manager. I still perfer using the Mac in the family room, but this one is in my room and that is just nice. I suppose as soon as I get the MacBook, I'll never need to use anything else. Also some of the browser plugins work. The problem with it all is that the computer is a 64 bit Intel doober, and some plugins don't play so nice with the 64 bit version of firefox, since they're compiled for 32 bit versions. Macromedia doesn't care about Linux that much.
On my Mac I've been trying different browsers. Obviously, Safari and Firefox are both great options, but I've made the decision to use Opera for most of my...operations. I like it, its quick, got cool features and such. http://www.opera.com is where you can get it, for any platform. It's free.
As soon as I figure out what would be interesting to blog about, I promise this will be better.
A good question indeed. In brings into question the reality of our very existance. Is reality an illusion? Let me give my opinion.
It seems our reality is only a microcosm of a much larger, much truer reality. For example, in Plato's cave (people who only see shadows and to them the world is just shadows moving around on a cave wall), we see how one can be fooled into knowing only the world they know when there is really a higher reality out there. Probably, there is a higher reality than our own then out there. We just can't see it or possibly grasp it.
But this doesn't answer the question at all. Heres a thought...nothingness is merely a concept and definition, definitions and concepts cannot exist unless someone defines them or conceives them, so nothingness cannot exist if nothing is there to decide its nothingness. And whatever describes it's exisitance is cleary something.
Also, if someone only eats breathmints their entire life and they throw up, does it smell good?
yeah, I do really suck at blogs. I need to work on it for sure.
So last night I was up until 2 am configuring my OpenSUSE into a decent OS. You see, I was playing around in YaST, and hit a button to update, and aparently the http site went down halfway through and I was left with an unstable system. Not to worry, I installed a minimal system of OpenSUSE 10.0 on /dev/sda1 (the main one is on /dev/sda4) and then copied everything from /dev/sda4 to 1, except /boot and a few others. The only problem I had after booting was some permission problems in my home directory, fixed with "chown -R chad *" and my /etc/fstab was still configured to the old settings. After getting all of that to work, I formatted /dev/sda4 and mounted it as my /home. This way I can keep 1 home when I start installing more distros. Plus sda4 is 50 GB where the rest are about 7. Exciting stuff.
And I finally got sound to work on the system. The inboard card refused to work, though a few people online claimed success with it. I finally just gave up and got a $30 PCI soundcard for christmas. It's a SoundBlaster something, as cheap as they get. In order to get it to work I had to "alsaconf" which had it only work for the root user so I "chmod 777 /dev/dsp" and /dev/mixer but the settings didn't stay on restart to I had to do "alsactl store 1."
The media players SUSE provides are all crap, so downloaded mplayer becomes necessary, as well as uninstalling everything they give you. I now use mplayer for all movies and sound, because, unlike the others, it works. I still haven't gotten it to work for any .mov or inside firefox as a plugin, despite the fact that I have everything set up that I need to do that.
Here is my todo list before I declare the computer usable: -connect to the Mac's iTunes sharing with rhythmbox -get .movs to play -get MSN to work in GAIM 2.0 beta (having some errors about ssl) -have it start KDE instead of gnome when I startx from runlevel 3 -and get browser's plugins to work.
So I've gotten a lot done on it but theres still a ton to do. I still need to apply to colleges and do my AP chem and English. Ah how school can waste a good vacation.
I got my AP results today. I passed Civics and Java...got 2s on Physics and English...and i'm really dissapointed on the English grade. I'm also pretty dang upset about only getting a 3 on Civics...that test was freaking easy i was pretty sure about a 5. Crazy AP tests, I better do better next year.
Remember kids, always ftp .class files in ascii mode! Also remember execute permissions are not needed on applets. In other words, I present to you, Mrs G's Adventures!!! http://chadnumber2.tripod.com/applet.html HAVE FUN!
I've never been a fan of blogs...in case you cant see by the fact that i havent done this for a year. Sure, I knew about them long before they were popular like they are now but I just never got into it at all. And I can write a lot about nothing so you would think i would be good at this thing. You think it would be made for me...or something.
I decided I'd talk about the game i made last week.
So theres this computer literacy teacher doesnt like me very much...Mrs Gruver...I came upon a picture of her and decided to make it look like she was talking with GIMP...check it out http://chadnumber2.tripod.com/talkingG.gif . Then I decided to make a game out of it using my mad java skills...its at http://chadnumber2.tripod.com/applet.html . I think the story is great. Although for some reason its not working online...which is funny because it works fine offline...SOO it might be a permissions problem idk...can't fix it though because i get a weird error on FTP...i sent an email, i'll surely post if i every get it to work. Shall be an exciting moment.
ahhhh AFV is a funny show except for one thing, the winning videos ARE NOT FUNNY! AT ALL!!!!!!! The funny ones don't even get nominated as the top 3. Pisses me off. But Most Outrageous Gameshow Moments is hillarious you should watch it. Whoever you are.
the hollow earth theory, its funny. People are crazy, i saw all about it on the techTV conspiracy show. "Just because you're paranoid doesnt mean they're not out to get you" is what one of them says. Thats a cool quote. Nerd Nation is a cool techtv show, they talk about nerds. Saras pissed off at me.
