Why is there something, rather than nothing?

A good question indeed. In brings into question the reality of our very existance. Is reality an illusion? Let me give my opinion.

It seems our reality is only a microcosm of a much larger, much truer reality. For example, in Plato's cave (people who only see shadows and to them the world is just shadows moving around on a cave wall), we see how one can be fooled into knowing only the world they know when there is really a higher reality out there. Probably, there is a higher reality than our own then out there. We just can't see it or possibly grasp it.

But this doesn't answer the question at all. Heres a thought...nothingness is merely a concept and definition, definitions and concepts cannot exist unless someone defines them or conceives them, so nothingness cannot exist if nothing is there to decide its nothingness. And whatever describes it's exisitance is cleary something.

Also, if someone only eats breathmints their entire life and they throw up, does it smell good?
